1D/2D MATERIAL SCIENTIST (M/F/D)
1D/2D MATERIAL SCIENTIST (M/F/D)
Permanent employee, Full-time · Berlin
Your mission
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced 1D/2D Material Scientist with specialized expertise in handling, wet/dry debundling, and incorporating 1D/2D nanomaterials (such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, etc.) into composite systems. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field and 2-3 years of hands-on experience working with 1D/2D nanomaterials. This role will focus on designing, developing, and optimizing composite materials for our advanced battery applications, ensuring enhanced mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. The successful candidate will join our dynamic team focused on developing next-generation lithium-sulfur battery technology. As an integral part of the team, you will play a critical role in the research, design, development and implementation of theion’s core technology and, contribute towards the improvement, scalability and commercialization of the same.
YOUR TASK
- Design and conduct experiments related to synthesis, functionalization, debundling, dosing and dispensing of 1D/2D nanomaterials, with a focus on their integration/deposition within composite matrices.
- Develop and optimize protocols for incorporating 1D/2D nanomaterials into different inorganic/organic matrices to enhance electrical, thermal and mechanical properties.
- Investigate the physicochemical interactions between 1D/2D nanomaterials and composite matrices, ensuring electrochemical stability and resulting battery performance.
- Use and develop advanced characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, Raman, XPS, etc.) to analyze the quality, distribution, and integration of the 1D/2D nanomaterials within different composites.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Materials scientists, Chemists, Electrochemists, and Engineers, to advance theion’s lithium-sulfur battery technology.
- Effectively document and communicate project progress and technical challenges through technical reports and presentations to diverse teams.
- Contribute towards the development of novel ideas for IP filling within the field of expertise.
- Contribute to the scaling and commercialization of theion’s lithium-sulfur batteries in collaboration with multiple teams.
Your profile
- PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in dealing with 1D/2D nanomaterials, ideally having experience with electrophoresis (EPD)/dielectrophoresis (DEP).
- Strong foundation in physics, with an in depth understanding of the mechanical, thermal and electrical behavior of 1D/2D carbon-based nanomaterial containing composites.
- Proficiency with material characterization techniques, including SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy, and other relevant analytical methods.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals or patents, supporting candidate’s skills.
- Demonstrated ability to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and interpret results in the context of composite material development.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
