Data Engineer (f/m/x) in the field of AI & Satellite Data

We are looking for a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our team. LiveEO leverages satellite imagery and artificial intelligence to provide actionable insights that drive decision-making across various industries. Examples are the precise detection of trees and their height in high resolution imagery to protect our customers power grids from tree fall, or the detection of dangerous construction work around critical infrastructure.
The successful candidate will join LiveEO’s AI team and will be a key contributor to the company’s effort to build state of the art geospatial AI models. The role involves building robust, automated and efficient data pipelines that transform terabytes of satellite data into ML-ready format for large scale model training.
You will have the ability to make a large personal impact on the development of the AI team and make significant contribution to foundational geospatial AI solutions of LiveEO. We don’t expect you to be an expert in all of the above but you should have the willingness to dive into new technical challenges and work on groundbreaking projects.
Tech stack & tools that we are using:

• Python: Rasterio, Numpy, PDAL, OSGEO, Geopandas, SQLAlchemy

• Databases: PostgreSQL, PostGIS
• Infrastructure: Docker, AWS
• GIS: QGIS, GDAL

Your challenge

• Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines that efficiently handle large amounts of geospatial raster data
• Orchestrate and automate data workflows using orchestration engines such as Prefect
• Manage and optimize relational databases, ensuring data integrity and performance (experience with PostgreSQL, Snowflake preferred)
• Engage in continuous improvement of the data processing frameworks by addressing challenges associated with large-scale Machine Learning pipelines and satelliate image processing, including data selection and observability, data and model versioning, automated data QA

Your profile

• 4+ years of experience in Data Engineering or a similar field
• Experience in designing, building, and maintaining high-throughput data pipelines, with a strong background in handling large datasets, particularly raster data
• Solid experience in designing, automating, implementing, and maintaining ETL pipelines
• Experience with Python with a strong emphasis on writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code
• Knowledge of parallel computing, including concurrent programming and performance optimization, to handle high-volume data processing tasks
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a willingness to dive into and navigate challenging and broad topics, driving innovation to improve data quality and process efficiency
• Understanding of geospatial and remote sensing data and processing techniques is a big plus
• Hands on experience with tooling of Machine Learning Operations at large scale is a nice to have
• Proficiency in managing relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake), with a strong understanding of database design and query optimization
• You live in or you are willing to relocate to Berlin
