Epidemiological modelling of vaccine-preventable infectious diseases (all genders)

Our ’Vaccination Modelling’ team (FG 33.4) is looking forward to your application!
The Vaccination Modelling team in the Immunization Unit conducts epidemiological modelling, healthcare services
research, health economic evaluations, primary data collections and analyses. The results inform among others the
evidence-based decision making of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (‘STIKO’).
Your job:
For the project ‘HELoCO’ funded by the Federal Ministry of Health to investigate the effectiveness and efficiency of
vaccinations against (i) Long COVID/post-COVID condition (PCC) and (ii) Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome (ME/CFS) for individuals and society in Germany through an integrated micro- and macroeconomic modelling

  • Develop and fit (calibrate) dynamic transmission models of the epidemiology and burden of disease of COVID-

19 and Long COVID/PCC as well as for investigating the effects of interventions (vaccines, non-pharmaceutical

  • Applying and fitting (calibrating) the epidemiological modelling to (pandemic) influenza and ME/CFS, and
  • Conduct searches to generate the input data of the models
  • Working closely together with colleagues to support the development and quality assurance of other analyses
  • Present and discuss the project results at national and international conferences, and publishing them in

scientific journals
Your professional profile:

  • completed degree (Master or equivalent European Qualifications Framework level 7) in applied mathematics,
  • relevant doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent European Qualifications Framework level 8) is of advantage

In the case of foreign educational qualifications, we require a certificate of equivalence with a German qualification.

  • in the development of dynamic transmission models, e.g. based on differential equations, individual-based
  • in the parameter identification and fitting/calibration of dynamic models, e.g. based on adaptive rules, Bayesian
  • in statistical-epidemiological programming (e.g. R/C++/Python/MatLab)
  • in working independently and coordination skills, e.g. documented through a relevant doctoral degree or in
  • Language skills (CEFR level): English up to C1, German up to A1 or willingness to acquire further German skills -
