About the position

Postdoc (m/f/d)
Optical pump-probe spectroscopy of epitaxial films and heterostructures
The PDI is currently looking to strengthen its expertise in pump-probe and ultrafast spectroscopy. We are looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher to extend our lab capabilities for pump-probe spectroscopy techniques. These may include ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy in reflection / transmission geometry, transient grating, TDTR, TR-MOKE, optical/THz pump-probe and transient absorption with the target to study carrier dynamics, spin dynamics, coherent phonon generation and thermal transport. The candidate will be able to conduct complementary TCSPC and autocorrelation measurements in our existing ultra-fast spectroscopy lab.

Your responsibilities

  • Planning, construction and implementation of a laboratory for optical pump-probe spectroscopy
  • Conducting and leading innovative and forefront research in material science and physics on short time scales
  • Publication in renowned journals and dissemination in conferences and workshops
  • Acquisition of third-party funding
  • Contribute measurements to collaborations with internal and external partners
  • proactiv Communication with collaborating research groups
  • Support PhD and Master students in their lab work and data analysis tasks

Your profile

  • PhD in physics or a related field
  • Proven expertise on time-resolved spectroscopy techniques such as optical pump-probe, THz spectroscopy, time-resolved photoemission, time-domain thermoreflectance techniques is mandatory
  • experience on epitaxial growth of thin films using modern state of the art technique such as MBE and expertise on various characterization technique associated with thin-film metrology
  • Versatility in setting up complex experiments from scratch
  • Deep understanding on the science of ultra short laser pulses
  • Experience in handling cryogen-based measurement system and UHV chambers
  • Experience in high frequency modulation and measurement techniques
  • Motivated team player with a high level of communication skills

Position and salary

This position is available from May 1, 2025 and is initially limited to a 2-year period.
Salary and benefits are according to the Treaty for German public service (TVöD Bund) to a level of E13, taking work experience and special professional skills into account.
