Research Associate (PostDoc) - salary grade 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - 2nd qualification period (Habilitation)

Tasks

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a committed personality with a strong interest in research and teaching in materials science and with the goal of completing a habilitation.
The position is located in the Chair of Materials Science & Engineering with a research focus on the processing of hierarchically structured materials and their structural and mechanical characterization. Funding for research projects should be actively obtained and an own working group shall be set up in the subject area.
The subject area shall be represented at national and international conferences and the results should be published in recognized journals with the aim of obtaining a habilitation.
As part of our teaching, we offer bachelor's and master's courses for students of mechanical engineering, transportation, industrial engineering, medical technology and materials science and engineering. The successful candidate will independently offer teaching in various modules, supervise final theses in a committed and qualified manner and advise students during consultation hours.
In addition, the future position holder should support the department head with administrative and public relations tasks.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in materials science and PhD degree in materials science with an excellent result
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in the processing of inorganic porous materials with hierarchical structure by freeze casting
  • In-depth knowledge in the mechanical characterization of the structures produced (standard and small samples) on different length scales, especially in situ coupled with synchrotron-based imaging methods (nano/uCT)
  • Teaching experience and experience in organizing large events, preferably on the topics of introduction to materials science, material selection, laboratory projects for first-year students and bio-inspired materials as well as experience in supervising final theses
  • Very good written and oral knowledge of German and English, so that courses can be held in both languages
  • Experience and skill in conducting scientific experiments
  • Experience in publishing scientific results in English in recognized journals

Desirable:

  • Experience with water glass is an advantage
  • Knowledge of science management is an advantage
  • Determination, structured work, organizational skills and good time management
  • Ability to work in a team, sense of responsibility and reliability
  • Serious goal of habilitation
