Your mission

As a VPP Modelling Engineer / Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in driving the development of flexibility and optimization models for our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) solutions. Your focus will be on enabling seamless integration and participation of distributed energy resources, such as batteries, EV chargers, and heat pumps, in key energy markets including day-ahead, intraday, and balancing services.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and energy market specialists, to design and deploy scalable algorithms within a cloud-based infrastructure. By translating complex technical requirements into efficient solutions, you will ensure our VPP platform delivers cutting-edge capabilities that align with market demands and customer needs. Your main focus will be to:

  • Designing advanced flexibility models for distributed energy resources.
  • Developing and deploying optimization algorithms for energy market participation including day-ahead, intraday, and balancing services.
  • Create and refine aggregation and deaggregation methodologies to maximize the monetization of flexibilities.
  • Ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and effectively integrated into a cloud-based infrastructure.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with forecasting teams to enhance accuracy for energy assets and real-time control methodologies.
  • Translate complex technical requirements into efficient algorithms and deploy them on cloud-based platforms (Google Cloud Platform).
  • Implement real-time control solutions to improve VPP responsiveness.

Your profile

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong proficiency in Python for algorithm development and data science.
  • Demonstrated experience with optimization modeling frameworks such as Pyomo, AMPL, GAMS, or similar tools.
  • Advanced knowledge in energy markets (day-ahead, intraday, and balancing) and VPP market participation strategies.
  • Background in forecasting models, with a focus on time-series forecasting.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Google Cloud Platform) and cloud computing fundamentals
  • A proactive mindset and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-growing company while keeping an eye on both short-term milestones and long-term goals.
  • An agile and product-oriented mindset and you consider yourself a team player
  • Very strong written and spoken English skills, German is a plus

Bonus points for:

  • Exposure to real-time control methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Typescript.
  • Experience with cross-European energy markets, beyond Germany.
  • Proven track record of developing cross-European VPP algorithms and solutions.
